Creative Commons features "Nothing So Strange"

Wow. Just a few weeks after free-culture hero Lawrence Lessig linked to this weblog, the Lessig-chaired Creative Commons names "Nothing So Strange" as its Featured Content of the Week:

Featured Content of the Week: Nothing So Strange Movie

This week's featured content is the open-source film "Nothing So Strange." While the whole film is protected by full copyright, individual clips can be downloaded for a nominal fee (a few cents in most cases), with the film's footage available for reuse, remix, and commercial use in any other work provided attribution is given.

It's an interesting experiment in both filmmaking and micropayments.

A lovely surprise. I didn't even know about it until I stopped by the CC blog.

Meanwhile, on a more depressing note, Lawrence Lessig (who also writes about the recall) reveals a shocking email from the mp3.com legal department to Creative Commons. Well, okay, it isn't all that shocking. But in a sane world, it would be.

(And in case you notice a striking similarity between the typeface and lower-case style Lessig is now using on the title banner of his blog and the one right here at Brian Flemming's Weblog, well, for the record, I was first. The new look at Lessig Blog started about 10 days ago, with the blog's move to a different server. However, I did discover the font, the free P22 Typewriter, because Lessig used it in his now-legendary presentation "free culture." I hope this heads off any controversy.)

Oh, and for those unfamiliar with Lessig:
